Before, During, After the Bang: Part 1
This is the first of a series leading up to our Zoom meeting Tuesday and beyond.
According to Alan Guth and many other respected physicists, "All grand unified theories predict that there should be, in the spectrum of possible particles, extremely massive particles carrying a net magnetic charge. By combining grand unified theories with classical cosmology without inflation, (John) Preskill found that magnetic monopoles would be produced so copiously that they would outweigh everything else in the universe by a factor of about 10 to the 12th power. A mass density this large would cause the inferred age of the universe to drop to about 30,000 years!"
So far we have not discovered even 1 magnetic monopole.
Why?
Bring your thoughts to our Zoom Tuesday.
Thanks
